A quiet base near Sweetwater Lake
Sweetwater Lake is about six miles from the chalet, with fishing, paddling, and trailheads into the Flat Tops and White River National Forest. There is no lodging at the lake itself.
The drive in is from the Dotsero exit on I-70 via Sweetwater Road, outside Gypsum. Groceries are in Eagle, about 35 to 40 minutes away, and Glenwood Springs is about 50 minutes. Bring all food; there are no restaurants nearby.
In summer, walk the aspen trails right from the door, or head to the Colorado River for fishing and rafting. Aspen color starts mid-September. Deer, elk, and moose are active on the property.
